Railway did not start as a master corporate vision. It began out of personal engineering frustration when trying to provision stateful backend databases and environments quickly. After leaving Uber, I set out to build tools that eliminated the administrative friction of cloud infrastructure. As more developers began utilizing what we created to deploy production workloads, it became obvious that the world needed an intuitive, developer-first platform that orchestrated entire application lifecycles rather than isolated database instances.
