Wind and solar are wonderful low-cost energy sources, but their intermittency requires massive grid overbuilding and unaffordable battery backup. TerraPower's sodium-cooled fast reactor operates at atmospheric pressure, utilizes depleted uranium fuel, and incorporates integrated molten salt thermal energy storage.
