You woke up in the middle of the night crying next to Rebecca. What happened in that moment?
Founder & CEO at WeWork
First time she had ever seen me cry. I said we lost everything. She asked about the cars. I said the wheels on the cars. She asked about the hundred million we had said we would put aside in her name just in case. I told her I had never done it. She asked about the personal guarantee we had agreed I would never sign. I told her I had signed it. Most partners would have crumbled in that moment. She looked at me and said when I met you you were broke and I think you are much more sexy when you are broke. Then I smiled. She also said we can go live with her mom in upstate New York and if I want to go back into business she knows I will be successful, and if I do not we will move to Costa Rica and surf every morning and every night. At that moment I think I grew up for the first time.
