How do you justify racing to build AI when you acknowledge it could cause human extinction?

First of all, let no one ever say that Claude is soft or biased toward me, because it throws hardballs. This technology represents an epochal change for humanity, similar to fire or steam engines. While the Industrial Revolution led to powerful weapons, we understand it was worth doing, and we must manage AI in the right way.

If the AI train cannot be stopped, how do you plan to steer it away from the rocks?
Why is it so difficult for companies in the AI industry to slow down their development pace?
How does Anthropic manage safety trade-offs when implementing strict child safety guardrails?
What is your view on the danger of users forming romantic attachments to AI chatbots?
How does Anthropic enforce its age restrictions, and can teenagers simply lie about their age?
Why did Anthropic refuse to participate in the Pentagon's use cases for Claude?
How did the co-founders react to the threat of being blackballed from government contractors?
Was there a moment when you believed this standoff could cause the end of Anthropic?
Why does the pressure driving AI toward dangerous applications often come from inside the system?
How can the public actively participate in designing and steering artificial intelligence?
Why do you believe that AI technology must be diffused at the speed of trust?
How do you define the cultural value of holding both light and shade in AI development?
Will the acceleration of AI inevitably wipe out fifty percent of entry-level jobs?
What is the new Mythos model, and how did a capabilities jump occur?
Why did Mythos surprise you during software security and exploit testing?
Why did you restrict access to Mythos, giving it only to forty specific infrastructure defenders?
